Yom Teruah (Day of Trumpets)
B’reshiyt (Genesis) 21:1-34; B’midbar (Numbers) 29:1-6;
Shemu’el Alef (1 Samuel) 1:1 – 2:10;
I Thessalonians 4:13-18
During these end times of tribulations and tyranny, what deliverance do we have to look forward to? Who can rescue us? When Ha’satan seems to have the upper hand in every realm of authority in this world, where on earth is the triumph over the enemies of mankind? What do we have to shout about and blow our horns over this coming Yom Teruah, the Day of Trumpets?
In his first letter to the Thessalonians, Paul prophesied of the second coming and told us to encourage each other with his words. In the resurrection upon the return of the Messiah, we certainly look forward to the regathering and re-uniting with the saints who have gone before us and with the remnant who remains upon the earth.
But to read only Paul’s words would be to miss the haftorah’s powerful prophecy of the prophetess Hannah regarding the second coming of Yeshua the Messiah. Pondering the ten verses of Hannah’s prayer will lift your heart, widen your smile, and give you more to shout about as we rehearse the soon coming of the great King!
1 Samuel 2:1 Hannah prayed, and said: “My heart exults in YHWH! My horn is lifted high in YHWH. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies because I rejoice in Your Yeshua (salvation).
The mighty Name of Yeshua – spelled ‘Yod, sheen, vav, ayin’ – is embedded in Hannah’s prayer in the Hebrew word – ‘bi-shu’aTecha,’ ‘in Your Salvation.’ The Messiah has rescued, is rescuing, and will rescue us from all our enemies hellbent on destroying and killing us all.
From the word for ‘pray’ – ‘palal,’ we learn that Hannah opened her mouth (pey) to speak to Authority (lamed), Elohim. She was pleading for the victorious outcome of those in the future who would suffer greater trouble than she had to overcome.
Hannah’s name, Chanah, means ‘grace, to seek favor, implore favor.’ Like Hannah, we seek grace and plead for favor with our God. We come boldly to His throne because we are not ‘under the Law’ but ‘under grace’ (Romans 6:14).
By grace showing His favor to Hannah, YHWH had rescued and delivered her from the troublesome mouth of her rival, the second wife of her husband – Peninnah (1 Samuel 1). For years, she had mercilessly provoked and grieved Hannah because she bore sons and daughters, but Hannah was barren. Penninah was a type of mouthpiece for the Accuser of the brethren, accusing us night and day of being barren of spiritual children and not favored by Elohim.
But thanks be to the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony the manchild company of overcomers is about to be birthed (Revelation 12:1). We are about to experience the revealing of the sons of God that all creation is groaning in travail for the liberation from the corruption of this world’s powers (Romans 8).
That’s something to enlarge our mouths and shout about this Yom Teruah! These days of revival prepare the remnant to be the Bride of the Messiah! These are the days of the coming of the Kingdom of the Almighty.
1 Samuel 2:2 There is no one as holy as YHWH. For there is no one besides you, nor is there any rock like our God.
As all other mighty authorities become increasingly corrupt and unholy, YHWH stands out as the only Holy One. There is no other god even close to being like Him.
That truth is becoming increasingly evident these days. Only He is worthy of our praise!
As everything that can shake begins to shake, our God, like an immovable rock, cannot and will not be moved. Not only is He immovable, He cannot be crushed, nor penetrated. The word for Rock – Tsur, literally means ‘flint, a very hard rock.’ Messiah in us is like that in our hearts, where ‘that wicked one touches him not.’ (1 John 5:18) Praise Yah, in Him we are unshakable!
And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN.” This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:26-29, NASB
What sacrifice can we offer our Elohim this Yom Teruah? In our reading of Numbers 29:1-6, we are commanded to offer sacrifices to Him. How about shouts of praise to the immovable, impenetrable Rock of our Salvation?
O come, let us sing for joy to YHWH. Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our Salvation! Psalm 95:1
On the other hand, there are times to be still and quiet before our Rock in prayer.
My soul, wait in silence for God only, for my hope is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be shaken. On God my salvation and my glory rest; the rock of my strength, my refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, O people. Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. Psalm 62:5-8
Pour out your heart before Him by the Spirit, like Hannah silently poured out her heart in pleading for favor for a son. Her libation offering of prayer made the backslidden Eli think she was drunk like old-school religious experts think about us. But we aren’t ‘drunk as you suppose’ (Acts 2:15), we are filled with the Holy Spirit as the prophet Joel had prophesied for the last days generation!
1 Samuel 2:3: “Don’t keep talking so exceedingly proudly. Don’t let arrogance come out of your mouth, for YHWH is a God of knowledge. By him, actions are weighed.
Hannah was pleading for the proud and arrogant to humble themselves before the Judge Who is coming back to weigh all our actions on His just scales. The proud boast of their great deeds and accomplishments, but the only thing that matters in His second coming will be how Adonai Yeshua weighs out every action. Let the proud boast now, Yeshua will have the last word on that day of reckoning.
An arrogant man stirs up strife, but he who trusts in YHWH will prosper. Proverbs 28:25
Many of the arrogant are rich and powerful today, but all their riches are short-lived (James 5). Upon the second coming of the Messiah, we who trust in YHWH will be the ones who prosper beyond what we can even think or imagine!
1 Samuel 2:4 The bows of the mighty men are broken. Those who stumbled are armed with strength.
Yeshua will return riding a white horse to wage a final war on all His enemies. The Messiah will turn swords into plowshares.
He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariots with fire. Psalm 46:9
He will remove the stumbling blocks and straighten the crooked paths of life, strengthening His sojourners.
Yet those who wait for YHWH will gain new strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31
1 Samuel 2:5 Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread. Those who were hungry are satisfied. Yes, the barren has borne seven. She who has many children languishes.
“Shout for joy, O barren one, you who have borne no child. Break forth into joyful shouting and cry aloud, you who have not travailed; for the sons of the desolate one will be more numerous than the sons of the married woman,” says YHWH. Isaiah 54:1
It’s not just physical food and sustenance that’s needed for vibrant health and reproduction, the Gospel by the Spirit reproduces souls for the Kingdom of Yah through the born-again experience. We should rejoice with the angels and shout with joy over every sinner repenting, coming into the Kingdom! (Luke 15:10)
1 Samuel 2:6 YHWH kills and makes alive. He brings down to Sheol, and brings up.
This is exactly what King Yeshua will do when He comes again. He’ll slay His enemies and send them to the grave, but not His saints! HalleluYah, He will resurrect and make those in Him raised up from Sheol alive. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17)
For God did not destine us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. 1 Thessalonians 5:9.
1 Samuel 2:7 YHWH makes poor and makes rich. He brings low, He also lifts up.
No one prophesied about the judgment on the rich in these last days and His great reset like the apostle Jacob/James did. His words are about to be fulfilled.
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure! Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of YHWH Tsava’ot (LORD of Hosts). You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. James 5:1-5
Study it out – when Babylon falls and when the Messiah returns, Yah has a great reset in store – for ‘the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just’ (Prov 13;22).
1 Samuel 2:8: He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill, To make them sit with princes, and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are YHWH’s. He has set the world on them.
What words of hope and encouragement during these days when the poor are just getting poorer and the middle class is purposely being destroyed by the rich elite? Be encouraged Oliver Anthony, ‘Rich men north of Richmond’ will not get away with plundering the poor much longer. Yeshua is coming back to right every wrong of real social injustice. He will lift up the humble, righteous outcasts of the world into places of authority and make them be the pillars of society!
“Let every valley be lifted up (the poor and needy), and every mountain and hill be made low (the rich elite), and let the rough ground become a plain, and the rugged terrain a broad valley (all the systems of the world that support mankind). Then the glory of YHWH will be revealed, and all flesh will see it together. For the mouth of YHWH has spoken.“ Isaiah 40:4-5
The glory of YHWH is the Messiah, Who is about to be revealed to all the earth!
1 Samuel 2:9: He will keep the feet of His holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; for no man shall prevail by strength.
When Yeshua returns, may we be found walking in His ways, so that our feet will not slip out from under us when the great earthquake shakes the earth, the voice of the archangel sounds, and the great shofar waxes louder and louder.
My steps have kept on Your paths. My feet have not slipped. Psalm 17:5
Our steps will lead us from all over the world back to the place where He will resurrect and regather all His saints on that great day of His return.
“I say to you that many will come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew 8:11-12
1 Samuel 2:10: Those who strive with YHWH shall be broken to pieces. He will thunder against them in the sky. YHWH will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to His King, and exalt the horn of His Anointed.”
Her priests also I will clothe with salvation, and her godly ones will sing aloud for joy. There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed. His enemies I will clothe with shame, but upon Himself His crown shall shine. Psalm 132:16-18
The day of Yeshua’s return, as we rehearse on Yom Teruah, will be a day of slaughter and of triumphant victory as prophesied by the apostle John:
Then I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse! The One riding on it is called Faithful and True, and He judges and makes war in righteousness. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and many royal crowns are on His head. He has a name written that no one knows except Himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the Name by which He is called is “the Word of God.” Revelation 19:11-13
Be in the Word of God, build up your holy faith in the Messiah, and give Him the praise! Shout it out! Blow the shofar! Exalted be King Yeshua, the Messiah, Son of David!
David
