Torah Re’eh, Behold, see!D’varim (Deut) 11:26 – 16:17
YeshaYahu (Isa) 44:11 – 45:5
Yochanon Alef (1 John) 4:1-6
A good father sets before his children clear choices with clear consequences.
Re’eh (Behold! See!)
I set before you today a blessing and a curse:
a blessing if you shall shema (hear, believe and obey) the commandments of YHWH your Elohim which I command you today… Deuteronomy 11:26-27
Re’eh, spelled resh, alef, hey, simply picture in ancient Hebrew letters – a man’s head, an ox head with horns, and a light shining through a window.
By seeking the Messiah in the volume of the book for what testify of Him (Psalm 40:7, John 5:39), I’ve discovered paleo-Hebrew letters represent the dynamics and operations of either the Messiah and His Kingdom, or the anti-messiah and the realm of darkness. In this context, ‘Re’eh’ – we behold, we see a picture of the Exalted Head (Jn 17:24), the Mighty Authority, revealing the infinite, invisible Kingdom of Heaven in a finite, tangible way here on earth, revealing to us what He wants us to see clearly.
In no uncertain terms, the Messiah, the Hope of Glory (Colossians 1:27), sets before Yah’s children clear choices with clear consequences for our futures. If we take Him at His Word, if we believe that Abba means what He says and says what He means, like a little child hears dad, then we should be better able to choose this day whom we are going to serve. His Word illuminates the way of the Kingdom for the born again (John 3:3).
The word ‘Re’eh’ shows us that the Messiah reveals His plan to His people, from the beginning to the end. He plans that we do what He says to do, and are blessed for it. If we don’t trust that He meant what He said and disobeys, He chastens us with curses.
In the context of this Torah portion, ‘Re’eh’ is to see how to live a life of blessing, or a life of cursing, from His perspective, beholding the choices with the mind of the Messiah.
Until the Spirit of Truth reveals to us what life is like with Him, or without Him, we are blind, not knowing that we do not have to live under the curses of a life in miserable Mitsrayim (Egypt). When the Messiah opens our eyes to behold a righteous life from His perspective, with His eyes we see blessing and fruitfulness, a life in the Kingdom of Light, walking in His Love. We see how good our Abba is to those who shema: hear, believe, and obey His commandments as He had them written for us. With that revelation in mind, who would not want to keep the commandments of our gracious King?
Adonai Yeshua offers the believer the greatest blessing of all – eternal Life:
“For Elohim so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16
Eternal life isn’t just for us to have after we die; eternal life is for every born-again believer in the Messiah to have now. No power or authority can take that away!
Should I listen to the angel on the right shoulder or the devil on the left, the next time I have a decision to make? What do I see to do next from my Messiah’s eyes?
Choose Life, choose blessing, choose the Word of Messiah.
Blessings in the Name of Adonai Yeshua,
David Klug
