Sometimes, we wonder if YHWH God will show Himself. We ask to see and understand, but due to our blindness we fail to see Him showing up at our door. At times, His presence is very clear. Other times, not so clear. Do we look forward to those times? Do we remember those times?
As we continue to visit Abraham and his family’s journey in Genesis, as well as others in 2 Kings and 2 Peter, I would like you to recount the blessings received when Yahweh has appeared to you.
But maybe you are asking, “who is He and how does He appear?
In Hebrew, “appear” means mar’eh, a masculine verb that means favored form, goodly, to look upon, or countenance. We also find the word “appear” means ra’ah, also masculine, which is the act of seeing, real and handsome shape, a beautiful countenance. When God appears to you, how do you see Him?
“For God, who said, “light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Yeshua. 2 Cor. 4:6
The glory of God appears in the face of His Son Yeshua! In fact, Yeshua himself stated, “If you have seen me you have seen the Father. Jn. 14:9
Does YHWH only show Himself through His Son or through others as well?
Can you consider the many dimensions of YHWH when He appears and how His appearances can challenge you? Think about the following:
- A keeper of a covenant promise. How does He keep the covenant with Abraham, the prophets widow and the Shunammite woman? “Who” shows up to honor the covenant?
- A ruler with all nations as a footstool. Both Isaac and Ishmael will father many nations. How are the mothers of these two boys given this message and through whom?
- Revealer of Truth to those unworthy. How does King Abimelech respond to YHWH?
- One Who listens to our inward desires. Sarah is asked, “why do you laugh?” The Prophet’s widow states, “my sons have been taken.” And the Shunammite pleas, “Did I ask for a son, did I not say, do not deceive me?” How does YHWH respond and through whom?
- As Judge and Savior. Peter warns against false teachers who twist and distort Messiah’s message as a license to sin, rather than to “repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand,” The stories of Noah and Lot demonstrate God’s sovereign power to rescue the godly and destroy the wicked.
With all this in mind, can you now remember when God appeared to you? Maybe He came as a life-giver when you were down. Maybe that life giver was a person sent to you. Maybe He appeared as a judge or Savior to you. Bottom line, what would you do if YHWH showed up at your front door? How would you receive Him?
Be blessed this Sabbath. Rollyn
